Covid concerns had shoppers avoiding physical stores on Black Friday. According to Sensormatic Solutions, a global retail solutions provider, store visits fell 28.3% compared to 2019. Compared to pandemic-plagued 2020, visits increase 47.5% on Black Friday. Leading retailers such as Sephora, Ulta and Dermstore, all rolled out big discounts on beauty items. Sephora, for example, cut prices in half on some its best-selling beauty items.
According to Brian Field, senior director of global retail consulting, Sensormatic Solutions, concerns about supply chain delays, will push consumers to make the most of in-store shopping opportunities.
"Coupled with unified commerce options like buy online, pick up in-store and pickup at curbside, consumers can ensure they are getting their holiday shopping done when and where it’s most convenient and in using fully integrated inventory intelligence retailers can feel confident in the accurate data powering each shopping channel,” said Field.
Sensormatic Solutions expects the 10 busiest U.S. shopping days in 2021 to account for 40% of all holiday traffic. U.S. in-store traffic for this year’s holiday season is also expected to be down between -10% and -15% compared to 2019.
