As the world continues to wear protective masks two years into the covid-19 pandemic, color cosmetics are transferring onto these masks as the skin is in constant friction.
To help brands create products suitable for times when face mask as necessary, Eurofins Cosmetics and Personal Care, a leader in laboratory testing services, can determine a product’s facial retention ability and classify it as mask-resistant, mask-friendly or mask-proof.
Eurofins can evaluate the application of foundation, powder, lipstick or blush, coupled with short- or long-term wear of face masks to help manufacturers create products suitable for the face mask market.
Masks are reducing product coverage and performance overtime. With the continuation of the pandemic and new foreseen disease challenges, consumers will be looking for products that tackle these issues.
A protocol was developed to determine the long-lasting effects of long wear and non-long wear foundations, after two and four hours of mask use. We examined residue transfer and make-up coverage levels of the foundation over a period of four hours on subjects who either wore a mask or did not wear a mask. Eurofins successfully concluded that the mask had a significant impact on both long wear and non-long wear foundations’ coverage levels over a four-hour period.
In addition to color transfer, Eurofins can also perform testing in other heighted areas of concern for consumers including mask acne and hand sanitizers.
