DSM is a 2023 sponsor of Destination Healthy Skin, the Skin Cancer Foundation’s mobile screening and education program.
The Destination Healthy Skin RV—which is equipped with two private exam rooms—travels around the country from May to September, spending two days in each community it visits. Local volunteer dermatologists provide free full-body skin cancer screenings on board the RV. Participants receive skin cancer prevention and early detection literature.
DSM's participation follows last year’s sponsorship of the life-saving endeavor that has impacted thousands across the US.
Since its launch, the program has provided more than 25,000 free skin cancer screenings, identified more than 10,000 potential skin cancers and precancers including 450 suspected melanomas, and distributed free skin cancer educational materials and sun protection products to tens of thousands of people.
“At DSM, our personal care team is committed to creating brighter lives through innovation, regulatory leadership and advocacy focused on positive impacts for public health. Our people are passionate about delivering on that promise very day by providing modern and responsible formulation solutions, including our Parsol UV filters for recreational/seasonal sunscreens and SPF beauty care products,” said Stephen Wood, senior director, DSM Personal Care NA. “By sponsoring a life-saving initiative like Destination Healthy Skin and working together with The Skin Cancer Foundation as well as the most respective sunscreen brands, this allows DSM to fulfill its mission to Do Something Meaningful by advocating for substantive change that benefits all of society.
DSM "Safer UNDER THE Sun" bags filled with sunscreen samples will be available at all select locations of the RV while it travels on its journey across the US.
Skin Cancer Foundation President Deborah S. Sarnoff, MD spoke about the value of bringing the Foundation’s supporters together and recognizing their contributions to a lifesaving cause.
“This is our second Gala during Skin Cancer Awareness Month, a time to highlight the urgency of The Skin Cancer Foundation’s mission,” said Dr. Sarnoff. “It’s important to me that each and every one of you feel connected to tonight’s program and this celebration of The Skin Cancer Foundation’s work.”
