The US-China relationship remains strained. This month, the US banned investment in Chinese tech sectors. In June, a Chinese warship and US destroyer nearly collided in the Taiwan Strait. For more than a year, the US has called on China to denounce Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Despite these and many other issues, US Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo will travel to Beijing and Shanghai from August 27-30 for meetings with senior PRC officials and US business leaders.
Raimondo’s travel follows President Biden’s meeting with President Xi last November to deepen communication between the US and the PRC on a range of issues. While in the PRC, Raimondo looks forward to constructive discussions on issues relating to the US-China commercial relationship, challenges faced by US businesses, and areas for potential cooperation, according to the Department of Commerce.
