As US consumers settle into 2024, they’re thinking abroad when it comes to the scents they’re wearing. Specifically, the Arabian Sea and West-Central Asia where the pistachio originated.
Gen Z-aged consumers – who have the highest interest in fine fragrance, per Circana data – are looking ahead to summer to dictate their selections. (They have Groundhog Punxsutawney Phil to thank for this year’s prediction of an early spring.)
Per Spate, consumers are captivated by the oud, musk and sandalwood that makeup Arabian perfumes and the deliciousness of pistachios. The scents constitute the moment’s top-growing fragrance trends on search in the US, per the New York City-based beauty trend tracker.
Arabian Perfume
According to analysts, Arabian perfume has an average of 25.1K monthly searches and +173.9% year-over-year (YoY) growth with high competition and one market leader: Arabian Oud. Search queries for the trend include “Arabian perfumes,” “Swiss Arabian perfume,” “Arabian perfume oil,” “Arabian oud perfume,” and “Arabian perfume store near me.” While oud isn’t a new scent, the idea of Arabian perfume as a term has blossomed on TikTok: Arabian perfumes are receiving an average of 9.2 million views a week on TikTok.
Foodie Fragrances
Pistachio perfume is taking the lead in what Jennifer G. Sullivan, co-founder of Fat Mascara, refers to as a "foodie fragrance." This trend receives 2.7K average monthly searches, +139.6% YoY growth, and medium competition with one market leader, Kayali.
Some of the top searches include “Pistachio brulee perfume,” “Kayali pistachio perfume,” “Pistachio and salted caramel perfume,” “Kayali pistachio gelato perfume,” “Kayali perfume pistachio,” and “Kayali yum pistachio gelato perfume.” Gourmand fragrances are also up +58.3% YoY in searches.
