Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” won seven Oscars at the 96th Annual Academy Awards, including Best Picture. But the film – dubbed one of the best movies of the century – wasn’t the only thing that was “the bomb.”
The hair and makeup of Hollywood’s finest was also on fire, thanks to their stylists who shared makeup and hairstyling tips with HAPPI.
Lupita Nyong’o - Matrix
Actress and presenter Lupita Nyong’o wore a hairstyle that celebrated her natural beauty. To showcase her coils and texture, her longtime stylist Vernon François used Matrix.
First, she applied Matrix A Curl Can Deam Light Hold Gel to define and enhance her natural texture, providing a base for the style. Next, she applied a small amount of Matrix Controller Gel around the hairline. This step was crucial, she said, in order to keep every strand in place and maintain a sleek look, while ensuring the actress’s hair remained impeccable under the spotlight.
To achieve the perfect balance between flexibility and structure, she used Matrix’s Fixer Hairspray to provide a flexible hold that would allow for movement without losing shape.
For areas requiring extra hold, she applied Matrix’s Vavoom Extra Hold Freezing Hairspray to ensure that every element of the hairstyle stayed in place, providing long-lasting hold without compromising on the overall shine and vitality of the hair.
Gracie Abrams - Fekkai
For the 2024 Oscars Vanity Fair Party, the stylists of Gracie Abrams, Emma Chamberlain and Leslie Mann used Fekkai products. Singer-songwriter, Gracie Abrams, worked with celebrity hairstylist Bobby Eliot, on behalf of Fekkai to create a “timeless” hair look.
Eliot started off with freshly washed hair. Then, he used the Fekkai Brilliant Gloss Glass Hair Anti-Frizz Oil Serum combined with Fekkai Clean Stylers Glossing Cream+ from roots to ends.
Next, he blow-dried the hair section by section to smooth it out concentrating on shine. Then, he used the Fekkai Clean Stylers Volume Lock Hairspray all over. Using a flat iron, he smoothed out the hair section by section to create a high-shine finish. Then, he used the Fekkai Brilliant Gloss Finishing Cream and brushed the hair into a sleek low messy bun.
Using the Fekkai Full Blown Volume Dry Texturizing Spray, he spritzed the hair all over to give it an “undone” feel. He finished off the look with Fekkai Brilliant Gloss Glass Hair Anti-Frizz Oil Serum and Fekkai Clean Stylers Volume Lock Hairspray all over for any fly aways and to lock in the shine and style.
Emma Chamberlain
Youtuber, podcaster and social media personality Emma Chamberlain worked with celebrity hairstylist, Sami Knight, on behalf of Fekkai to create a sleek and edgy updo.
To start, she applied a quarter sized squeeze of the Fekkai Clean Stylers Glossing Cream+ to damp hair and blow dried everything back with a big round brush. Along the hairline, she spritzed the Fekkai Clean Stylers Flexi-Hold Hairspray and used the blow dryer again to direct all the hair up and away from the face. Next, she used a quarter sized amount of the Fekkai Brilliant Gloss Finishing Cream and applied to the dry hair pulling it up into a tight ponytail, to do this I used a soft boar bristle brush.
She split the pony in two, and applied more finishing cream to each side, twisting both to the left and then coiled back over to the right, making a rope twist. Then, she pulled the twist around the base of the ponytail, securing it with a few pins leaving the tails unsecured and loose. She put a little more of the Fekkai Brilliant Gloss Finishing Cream on my fingers and lightly sculpted the tails into a pleasing arrangement.
To finish, she gave a liberal spray of the Fekkai Clean Stylers Flexi-Hold Hairspray over the finished style to secure everything in place.
Leslie Mann - Fekkai
Actress Leslie Mann worked with Celebrity Hairstylist Lona Vigi, on behalf of Fekkai, to create a sleek and chic look.
She prepped Mann’s wet hair with the Fekkai Clean Stylers Root Lift Volume Spray. She had her flip her head over and worked it through roots to ends, generously. Then, she kept working her way to the ends. This not only provides a lift, but it also makes the style last a long time.
After she blew each piece out section by section starting at the top, she put each piece around a velcro roller to set. Per the stylist, volume and shape is important, especially if the desired style is going to be behind the shoulders and off the face.
Once she let the hair cool, she took it all down and applied the Fekkai Full Blown Volume Dry Texturizing Spray to each section, starting at the scalp. She then shaped the hair in one smooth motion with a boar bristle comb and my hands. She used about a quarter-sized amount of the Fekkai Blonde Rx Brightening Oil. To create the style, she took a comb to part her hair down the middle, smoothed it behind her ears, and gathered it at the nape of her neck. If hair is on the finer or shorter side, she recommends starting by pulling it all into one ponytail.
Then, she grabbed the ponytail and twisted it around in a counter-clockwise circle, coiling it tightly for a sleeker look. Or, she recommends keeping it looser if going for a more “undone” effect. She continued to twist her hair into a bun shape using her index finger to hold it in place. Then, she rolled that around the elastic, the base of the pony, then secured each side of the bun with a few bobby pins. Lastly, she gently pulled and loosened the edges to get the desired shape. She then set the style with the Fekkai Clean Stylers Flexi-Hold Hairspray.
Sydney Sweeney - Kérastase
Actress Sydney Sweeney’s look was created by celebrity hairstylist Glen Oropeza, using Kérastase products.
Oropeza started by prepping damp hair with Kerastase Chroma Absolu Serum Chroma Thermique and Kerastase Premiere Serum Filler Fondamental. Then, he blow-dried with Kristin Ess Hair Soft Volume Blow-Dry Brush. Using Kristin Ess Do It All Sectioning Clips, he went in with the blow-dry brush in smaller sections to curl the hair underneath itself at the ends. Next, he went in with Kerastase Volume In Powder Texturizing Spray to create a texture on dry hair.
After that, he used the Kristin Ess 1.25-inch curling iron like a round brush to curl the ends under to lock in the soft bounce. Lastly, he sprayed more Kerastase Volume In Powder Texturizing Spray and tussled the hair-tuck the front pieces behind the ear. He finished with a generous amount of Kerastase Laque Extreme.
Meghann Fahy - Haus Labs
Celebrity Makeup Artist Jen Tioseco used Haus Labs by Lady Gaga on White Lotus actress, Meghann Fahy for the Vanity Fair Oscars Party, which included the new Color Fuse Powder Blush in the new shade Pomelo Peach.

Robert Downey, Jr. - American Crew
Robert Downey Jr. and Matthew McConaughey used American Crew to style their hair.
American Crew worked with Davy Newkirk for Robert Downey Jr. and Marcus Francis for Matthew McConaughey to complete the looks described as the currently trending “heartthrob hair,” which is defined as a ruffled or a casually messy style that emulate “I woke up like this.” Both A-listers have been known for their effortlessly cool style.
For Downey, Jr.’s look, Newkirk sprayed American Crew Prep and Prime Tonic evenly onto Robert’s damp hair, then combed through the hair to ensure a good base for the next products. Then, he took a nickel-sized amount of American Crew Matte Clay, warmed it up in his hands, and applied it to his hair, root to ends. The texturizing formula was perfect for this given its medium hold and a silky matte finish, Newkirk said. Next, he used a blow dryer on medium heat to rough-dry his hair. Using a small round brush, he smoothed out some of the curls, directed the sides back, and gave the top of his hair some volume. Then, using a small flat iron, he hit pieces and gave them some bend. Lastly, he finished the hair with a small amount of American Crew Heavy Hold Pomade, which added dimension to the style and provided extra hold.
Matthew McConaughey - American Crew
For McConaughey’s look, on towel-dried hair, Francis began with American Crew Prep and Prime Tonic all over to prepare the hair for styling and for increased control and manageability. Next, to help keep the overall shape squared off, he used a small amount of American Crew Light Hold Styling Gel on the sides, combing it back loosely into the hair.
Then, he used American Crew Fiber Cream and applied to the sides and back to give his hair refined texture before using a diffuser to dry it into place. For the top, he used American Crew Cream Pomade, a moisture-rich cream pomade that provides a natural look while taming hair and leaving a low shine finish.
Once dry, he lightly moved the hair around to soften the movement of the texture, keeping the hair moving back and over the ears.
