Dehydroascorbic Acid for Artificially Coloring the Skin
US Patent No. 9,643,032 B2: L'Oréal, Paris, has patented a regimen for artificially coloring the skin that entails topically applying onto the skin a composition containing an effective amount of dehydroascorbic acid and/or a monomeric derivative thereof of formula (I) and/or an isomer thereof of formula (I′) and/or a polymer derivative thereof:
in which OR1 and OR2, which may be identical or different, are each OH; a linear or branched, saturated or unsaturated C1-C30 alkoxy radical; a glycoside; a linear or branched, saturated or unsaturated C1-C30 aliphatic carboxylic acid ester, which may be substituted with an aryl group or a heterocycle; an aryl or heterocyclic carboxylic acid ester which may be substituted with at least one linear or branched, saturated or unsaturated C1-C30 alkyl radical; a phosphate group; a sulfate group, and also polymeric derivatives thereof, formulated into a topically applicable physiologically acceptable medium therefor; wherein the dehydroascorbic acid and/or a monomeric derivative thereof of formula (I) and/or an isomer thereof of formula (I′) and/or a polymer derivative thereof is combined with ascorbic acid or a derivative or salt thereof.
Compositions Having Improved SPF
US Patent No. 9,642,791 B2: L'Oréal, Paris, has patented a composition comprising at least one sunscreen active agent and at least one oil dispersion of acrylic polymer particles that comprises a C1-C4 alkyl (meth)acrylate polymer and at least one stabilizer selected from the group consisting of isobornyl (meth)acrylate homopolymers and statistical copolymers of isobornyl (meth)acrylate and of C1-C4 alkyl (meth)acrylate present in an isobornyl (meth)acrylate/C1-C4 alkyl (meth)acrylate weight ratio of greater than 4. The oil dispersion is present in an amount effective to increase SPF of the composition.
Mascara Patents
US Patent No. 9,622,958 B2: L’Oréal, Paris, has patented a mascara composition that contains styrene/acrylate in the form of a latex film forming polymer having a glass transition temperature from about -15°C. to about 90°C; C30+olefin/undecylenic acid copolymer; at least one organic solvent selected from the group consisting of isodecane, isododecane and isohexadecane; water; and pigment.
US Patent No 9,636,294 B2: L'Oréal, Paris, has patented a mascara composition that is comprised of at least one olefin/acrylate grafted polymer; and at least one styrene/acrylates copolymer. The ratio of a weight amount of the olefin/acrylate grafted polymer to a weight amount of the styrene/acrylates copolymer is from 1:3 to 4:1.
Latex Nail Composition with Low Amounts of Photo-Initiator
US Patent No. 9,636,293 B2: L'Oréal, Paris, has patented a cosmetic composition for application to the nails comprising at least one photo-curable polymer dispersed in water; at least one non-photo-curable polymer dispersed in water; at least one photo-initiator; at least one plasticizer; optionally a colorant; and water. The photo-curable polymer dispersed in water is selected from an aliphatic urethane acrylic copolymer, an aliphatic anionic polyurethane dispersion, an aromatic polyurethane dispersion, and mixtures thereof.
