In the mid 1980s, Americans were captivated by “MacGyver,” a TV show in which a secret agent was able to solve seemingly hopeless, life-threatening situations all by enlisting his scientific knowledge and common objects—think detonating an atomic bomb with a paper clip and duct tape. During the show’s heyday, and even years later, it was common to hear someone referred to as “MacGyver” when they came through in more mundane “dire” situations like fixing a broken zipper or finding tickets to a sold-out show; there were TV movies made from the series and a short-lived revival in 2016, and Saturday Night Live spoofed the show with character named MacGuber..
This year, Evo has rolled out a new SKU called macgyver, billed as a versatile, multi-use mousse that supports style without stickiness or unwanted weight. Happi checked in with Meghann Reeves, head of marketing, who shared why the brand’s newest formulation is just as crafty as its namesake when it comes to hair styling, how Evo navigates the competitive hair care category and its plans for 2019.
