Sopharcos’ encapsulation technology is based on two different nanoemulsions (NE) formed by an edible and skin-friendly emulsifier derived from sunflower. Hydro-Tops are water-in-oil-in-water nanoemulsions with high encapsulation efficacy for hydrophilic/amphiphilic or lipophilic actives. Lipo-Tops are oil-in-water nanoemulsions for the incorporation of concentrations up to 20% of lipophilic components/oils.
The tops consist of small nano-sized flexible vesicles (80-200nm) with unique homogenous size distribution and high encapsulation efficiency, according to Sopharcos.
These carrier systems enable formulators to encapsulate a variety of different components and to enhance their solubility (e.g. polyphenols), their stability (e.g. vitamins) and their penetration even for components of high molecular weight (e.g. proteins) into the deeper skin layers or hair follicles.
