RIFM’s Principal Scientist for Dermatotoxicology To Participate at the 2024 Biennial Meeting of the American Society for Photobiology

Ritacco will present work in collaboration with the Institute for In Vitro Sciences (IIVS) on new, non-animal tests to evaluate the photo allergy potential of fragrances.

The Research Institute for Fragrance Materials’ Principal Scientist for Dermatotoxicology, Gretchen Ritacco, will participate at the 2024 Biennial Meeting of the American Society for Photobiology in Chicago, IL, July 27-30, 2024.

Ritacco will present work in collaboration with the Institute for In Vitro Sciences (IIVS) on new, non-animal tests to evaluate the photo allergy potential of fragrances. The data presented are on known photo allergens, which RIFM and IIVS tested to ensure the new assays correctly captured their photo allergenic activity.

“Photobiology is a relatively small field,” Ritacco explained. “I am excited to attend this conference to present and receive feedback on this work from other experts. We lack OECD guideline in vitro assays for photo allergy. This poster will highlight our research program in this area. I am eager to learn about what others are working on that we can leverage in our pursuit of NAMs for photo allergy.”
