Time for Kids has named 15 year-old Heman Bekele its 2024 Kid of the Year for his  compound-based bar of soap that could one day be a more accessible way to deliver medication to treat skin cancers.

Happi first reported about Bekele in 2023 when he won the 3M Young Scientist Challenge, a national middle school science competition, where his entry was his “Skin Cancer Treating Soap.”

To select the 2024 Kid of the Year, Time solicited nominations for young leaders who are making admirable contributions in a range of fields such as social justice, science and business.

The 2024 Kid of the Year feature is published in the August 26 issue of Time, which is out now.

You can listen to Bekele here in this Time video.
