When it comes to TikTok, we know the social media app is at the forefront of viral trends. With the hashtag #perfumetiktok generating over a million views, fragrance brand Luxoni Beauty delved deeper into TikTok search data to reveal the biggest search trends emerging amongst consumers this autumn.
Fragrance industry expert and founder of Luxoni Beauty Malika Isles said: “The demand for niche fragrance houses and choices are growing rapidly. Fragrance consumers are seeking unique blends to highlight their individuality. Whether this desire for niche perfumes takes form as seeking fragrance with high quality ingredients or fragrances made in small batches – we’re seeing a big shift in the fragrance industry.”
Vanilla scents are officially trending. With vanilla scent related search terms generating a total of 2.17 million searches, this is the note choice of the season. Warm, alluring and comforting – the nostalgic scent is captivating the masses. The search term ‘vanilla gourmand fragrances’ has been searched for 887,000 times and has increased 141.10% in interest over the last month.
Gourmands, more generally, are the biggest emerging fragrance category on TikTok, with ‘vanilla caramel perfume’ being the most searched-for combination, reaching 800,000 searches and increasing by 129%. Brands like Luxoni embrace this combination of sweet vanilla and rich caramel in their latest release, Mayfair Muse. Other brands are also introducing vanilla-based scents to their collections, reflecting the rise of this trend.
Gendered fragrances are no more. TikTok users are increasingly searching for fragrances that are designed for all genders. With a total of 1.7 million searches, and increasing – the search term ‘unisex fragrance’ has increased 202% in the last month alone.
The move towards gender-neutral scents reflects a broader cultural shift toward inclusivity. Consumers are increasingly looking for fragrances that resonate with their identity, rather than being confined by traditional gender norms. This trend presents a unique opportunity for brands to cater to diverse preferences.
TikTok users are increasingly wanting scents that are exclusive, deviating from traditional mainstream choices. With searches such as ‘best niche fragrances for women’ increasing 1000%, there’s no doubt that TikTok users are seeking unique choices where they can smell different from the masses.
With TikToker’s increasingly identifying themselves through various ‘aesthetics’ to match a certain mood, this is also showing up in perfume choices. From ‘clean girl’ to ‘dark feminine’, TikTok users are increasingly categorizing and wearing scents that align with the aesthetic they’re trying to identify with. The search term ‘perfume aesthetic’ has a total of 879,000 searches, and has increased 1000%. Perfume bottles that match an aesthetic are also becoming increasingly popular, increasing 351% in searches.
After gourmands, ouds follow behind with related terms generating 1.1 million searches. The search term ‘best oud fragrances’ has increased 1000%, suggesting that oud is still here to stay.
Findings also revealed that pink pepper perfumes are on the rise on TikTok. Sharp, peppery and spicy scent with rosy overtones, searches for this note have increased 148.30%.
