Counteracts modern levels of UV exposure and oxidative stress.
February 6, 2025
By: Melissa Meisel
Evolved By Nature’s new bioactive peptide, Activated Silk KDF-β, supports natural processes to promote the formation of a hydrated epidermal layer, rapidly counteracting modern levels of UV exposure and oxidative stress.
It is the fourth peptide to be launched on Evolved By Nature’s naturally-derived Activated Silk platform for skincare.
Environmental factors like damaging UV rays, climate change and increased pollution have dramatically increased the number of free radicals that cause oxidative stress damage on the skin, per the company. Year after year, UV levels have increased in certain places by up to 6% over a 30-year period, along with UV-driven cancers. A new kind of ingredient is needed, not just to bring immediate, visible improvement to the skin, but to help the skin rejuvenate by moving out damaged cells, which could cause long term impacts if not cycled through in an optimized manner.
While legacy skincare ingredients like hyaluronic acid, retinol and vitamin C address symptoms of oxidative stress, they were not designed specifically for the problem, officials said.
Activated Silk KDF-β is touted a “breakthrough” ingredient, purposely developed to help skin adapt to today’s evolving environmental challenges. The ingredient is specifically designed to support natural regeneration and protect the skin from oxidative stress damage, which can cause a range of issues such as dullness, uneven complexion, hyperpigmentation, discoloration, accelerated signs of aging, inflammation and atopic skin issues. Offering a proactive and preventative approach to modern skincare, Activated Silk KDF-β helps to cycle out the signs of older or damaged skin cells and supports a more robust and protective skin barrier, per the company.
Activated Silk KDF-β also supports the natural upregulation and production of beneficial skin health proteins: involucrin for elasticity, filaggrin for hydration and claudin for skin barrier integrity. Delivering these supportive proteins further helps to strengthen the skin barrier and protect against oxidative stress.
Activated Silk KDF-β was developed with the philosophy that an ingredient meant to promote youthful, healthy-looking skin should not cause irritation or risk harm, officials said. As a result, it is proven safe for sensitive skin, suitable for daily use and sun exposure and can be easily incorporated into any formulation. Furthermore, in a head-to-head clinical study, Activated Silk KDF-β displayed remarkable reduction in the appearance of damaged skin, in the appearance of symptoms associated with eczema prone skin and in the reduction of the appearance of redness, said the company.
Activated Silk KDF-β is also a natural ingredient designed with the principles of biotechnology. It is made with upcycled ingredients, cruelty-free sourcing and renewable energy. Unlike synthetic peptides which commonly use deleterious processing chemicals that produce harmful effluents, Activated Silk KDF-β uses only silk protein, water and concentrated salts, officials said. It also supports eight of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, said the company.
