Located on the Florida Polytechnic University campus, the IFF site is powered by advanced technology, expert knowledge and a holistic citrus ecosystem.

International Flavor and Fragrances, Inc. has opened a Citrus Innovation Center in Florida and a business hub in Mexico.

Citrus Innovation Center

The Citrus Innovation Center is located in Lakeland, FL in partnership with Florida Polytechnic University. The 30,000 square-foot facility encompasses state-of-the-art capabilities in botanical research leveraging its LMR by IFF natural ingredients expertise, processing, analytics, product creation for scent and taste and includes a 360-degree digital immersion room.

Designed with sustainability in mind, the center offers job opportunities in research, customer experience, supply and operations.

“Citrus is vital to our creations in scent and taste, with enormous potential for innovation across our businesses,” said Erik Fyrwald, IFF CEO. “The Citrus Innovation Center embodies our unwavering dedication to innovation, and our commitment to creating enduring external partnerships that help us to bring leading solutions to our customers while doing more good for people and planet.”

The Citrus Innovation Center will focus on applications in food and beverage, fine fragrance, body care, and fabric and home care. Equipped with cutting-edge technologies, IFF customers can anticipate rapid product development, explore innovative citrus applications, and conduct advanced product testing. The facility is designed to foster collaborative innovation partnerships, aligning with IFF’s culture and values. Additionally, the center boasts direct access to industry-leading experts, academia and on-site prototyping capabilities, enabling customized solutions. Supporting approximately 40 jobs, the facility offers room for expansion, with opportunities for job rotations, professional development and training.

Its unique architectural expression, combined with views of the campus and surrounding nature, complements the center’s goal of minimizing its environmental footprint, officials said. Key sustainability features include LEED silver certification, a solar array system that meets the site’s entire power demand, the use of well and reclaimed water for irrigation, energy-saving processes and a comprehensive recycling program in partnership with Recycling Services of Florida.

Mexico Business Hub

To further strengthen its ability to serve customers with leading innovations, IFF plans to combine the majority of its business operations in Mexico at a new site in Mexico City within the Tecnoparque business complex.

The move will begin immediately with its Global Business Services Center, which supports the company’s full business capabilities serving Mexican and Latin American markets.

It is expected to finalize by 2026.

IFF’s new facilities will house up to 650 employees across its health & biosciences, scent, taste and food ingredients businesses – making it one of IFF’s largest office locations.

“Mexico’s rich cultural heritage, traditions and captivating sensorial experiences make it a strategic market in our global growth strategy,” said Erik Fyrwald, IFF CEO. “By moving to this new site, IFF is better positioned to win with customers by leveraging the collective power of science and creativity across our businesses in one physical location.”

IFF’s new facilities in Mexico City align with similar initiatives in markets worldwide, where the company has established technology and innovation hubs, officials said. These sites aim to enhance IFF’s ability to meet evolving customer demands, accelerate product market entry and improve sustainability. The move to Tecnoparque will include labs focused on product creation, design, testing, research and development, and business services. The offices will also incorporate spaces designed for collaboration, unique immersive experiences and co-creation with customers, further enabling IFF to tap into Mexico’s vibrant and exciting culture, cuisine and history. In addition to primarily serving the Mexican market, the company’s business hub in Tecnoparque will also support business development across Latin America and the Caribbean.

“Attracting, developing and retaining the best talent is key to enabling sustainable business growth,” said Deborah Borg, chief people officer at IFF. “Our new location in Mexico City offers a vibrant work environment with open workspaces, cutting-edge technology, access to nature, and health and wellness opportunities for our employees.”

The new IFF offices in Mexico City are part of the Tecnoparque business complex, which includes 50,000 square meters of green space and more than 600 trees. In terms of sustainability, the complex generates enough solar power to meet its own energy demands and features a sophisticated water-management system and responsible waste management.

IFF’s facilities in Tlalnepantla— home to the company’s legacy for more than 60 years in Mexico—will continue to serve as a strategic production site for the scent and taste business units.
