Last month, Chanel was impacted by a Salesforce data security breach, specifically impacting US customers. The breach was detected on July 25. In a letter to customers, the company explained hackers had infiltrated Chanel’s database, which was hosted at a third-party service provider.

According to Salesforce, the CRM platform wasn’t compromised. Instead, customers are being exploited and breached in a series of “social engineering attacks.” Chanel didn’t identify the hackers, but recent similar attacks on other retailers suggest Scattered Spider or ShinyHunters were involved, according to sources.

The cyber attack on Chanel is the latest in a series of similar attacks targeting fashion retailers with US operations. Victims include Victoria’s Secret, Cartier, Dior and Louis Vuitton. Sources say the targets suggest a link or even collaboration between hackers.

This isn’t the first time companies in the global household and personal products industry were impacted by cyber attacks. Other victims include Clorox and Estée Lauder.
