Shin-Etsu Silicones of America, Inc. recently premiered key raw material products and associated formulation examples that lean into today’s trends around texture and sensory feel.

“Our goal is to give customers more sophisticated alternatives for their ever-demanding sensory and texture needs,” said Briana Blessitt, SESA’s Applications Chemist. “The formulations featured at the sensory bar allowed them to experience first-hand the unique options that are available and continually evolving.”

SESA’s 14,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art Cosmetics Application Laboratory is located 20 miles from Manhattan and Newark International Airport, allowing for SESA to be closer to many of its strategic customers based in New York and New Jersey.

New Cosmetic Raw Materials

Silicone Elastomer Gel (INCI: C13-15 Alkane (and) Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer) is a non-emulsifying elastomer gel with superior oil thickening control capability. The unique silicone gel consists of silicone crosspolymer and natural derived hydrocarbon. Notably, it is an effective thickening agent for low viscosity silicone and organic oils–providing a silky, dry, smooth feeling on the skin. The gel can be used across a variety of cosmetic applications.

Alkyl/Polyglycerin Co-modified Silicone Elastomer Gel (INCI: Coco-Caprylate/Caprate (and) Lauryl Dimethicone/Polyglycerin-3 Crosspolymer) is an alkyl chain-modified silicone gel emulsifier that is combined with a natural origin oil. The alkyl modified silicone chains are cross-linked with polyglycerin chains to form an elastomer gel. It provides light texture and good skin affinity to W/O and anhydrous formulations. The base oil is widely compatible allowing it to improve the stability of formulations with organic oils and organic filters. It is also suitable for water-break textures.

Functional Hybrid Powder (INCI: Mica (and) Hydrated Silica) is a natural origin hydrated mica powder coated with mesoporous silica and monodisperse silica on its surface. This structure provides excellent light-diffusing and gliding properties along with high oil absorption due to the mesoporous silica coating. The two types of silica work together to scatter light and create a soft-focus effect. Compared to standard mica, it delivers a smoother texture and enhanced silky slip.

SESA Associated Formulations

W/O Smoothing Face Serum (Formulation: CAL27-52F) is a hydrating, silky, skin smoothing serum is refreshing, lightweight, and fast absorbing. It instantly softens the skin with a smooth, lightweight after-feel which makes it the ideal texture for layering of additional products. Additionally, a fresh cooling sensation comes from combining KSG-210 with KF-6028, which stabilizes larger particle size emulsions.

Water Drop Face Cream (Formulation: US02-186) is a lightweight, organic rich cream features the technology of KSG-850 to allow for the formation of a stable W/O emulsion that upon rub-in provides a unique water break effect for a fresh skin feel. This formula contains 98% natural origin ingredients. Its silky rich texture also delivers intense hydration to the skin. Finally, the addition of KSG-45, an elastomer gel in a naturally derived base oil, helps to stabilize the system and provides a soft after-feel on the skink with a light and powdery feeling–even when combined with organic oils.

O/W Shine Control Primer (Formulation: CAL27-63B) is an O/W face primer features the functional hybrid WHP-100MS powder, combined with KSG-19 (a non-emulsifying elastomer gel in 6cs dimethicone), which contributes to a superior mattifying and soft-focus effect with lasting shine control. It is also oil absorbing, hydrating, and has a silky soft texture. Ultimately, this O/W face primer demonstrates how the functional WHP-100MS powder, combined with KSG-19 (a non-emulsifying elastomer gel in 6cs dimethicone), contributes to a superior mattifying and soft-focus effect with lasting shine control.

The products were on display at the New York Society of Cosmetic Chemists (NYSCC) Supplier’s Day at the Javits Convention Center in May.
