Connecticut SB 292 cites consumer goods including cosmetics, dental floss and other household and personal care products.
July 22, 2026
By: Melissa Meisel
Connecticut’s Public Act No. 24-59 (Substitute Senate Bill No. 292) restricts intentionally added per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in household and personal care. According to the bill, products must be labeled as containing PFAS starting July 1, 2026 with a full sales ban taking effect Jan. 1, 2028.
The documentation here refers to air care, household care, cleaning products, cosmetics and other industry categories.
In other news, the Illinois Public Act 104-0231 amends the state’s PFAS Reduction Act to expand the existing ban on intentionally added PFAS to additional products including household and personal care.
The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency is also directed to submit a report by Aug. 1, 2027 regarding the regulatory approach for fluoropolymers in consumer products.
The expanded ban takes effect Jan. 1, 2032. Learn more here.
In 2025, ASTM International released a standard aiming to provide a road map for planning and executing assessments of PFAS in consumer products and articles, as reported in Happi.
