Skincare device maker Droplette has raised $15 million in its latest funding round. The device sprays small mist drops that are meant to better penetrate skin, according to the company. Droplette was founded in 2020 by Madhavi Gavini and Rathi Srinivas. During the past year or so, the company has sold more than one million devices.

Droplette capsules contain common skin care ingredients like collagen, retinol and glycolic acid. This year, the company will expand the line to include capsules that treat redness and hyperpigmentation.

According to Gavini, Droplette includes a membrane pump to accelerate the droplets, which then decompose into smaller droplets when they hit the skin.

Both Gavini and Srinivas have pharmaceutical and biotech backgrounds. They insist that experience will help them bring rigor to the skincare process. Maybe, but skincare penetration issues can raise eyebrows at the US Food and Drug Administration. FDA takes issue with cosmetic companies that make drug claims or promise delivery beyond the stratum corneum.

With $15 million in funding secured, Droplette plans to automate the capsule manufacturing and sealing process.
