The Personal Care Products Council (PCPC) and the Congressional Cosmetics Caucus recently hosted a Congressional Briefing on the Humane Cosmetics Act (H.R. 1657) in Washington, DC.The discussion was kicked off by Rep. Nicole Malliotakis, Cosmetics Caucus Co-Chair and Rep. Don Beyer, Humane Cosmetics Act lead sponsor.PCPC’s Senior Director of Safety and Regulatory Toxicology, Kimberly Norman, PhD, DABT, ERT, spoke on the panel, along with representatives from Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine and Cruelty Free International.
The panel highlighted the importance of using New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) in cosmetics safety assessments, a pillar of the legislation and industry’s efforts to advance these alternatives to animal testing, according to event organizers.
