Jewels from the collections of Estée Lauder and Evelyn H. Lauder fetched $3.9 million during a recent Sotheby’s auction, with more than 80% of the pieces on offer coming in at prices above their high estimates. The jewels were sold to benefit Breast Cancer Research Foundation and the Alzheimer’s Drug Discovery Foundation.
The collection, which was on the auction block on Dec. 9, included a rare ‘Tutti Frutti’ bracelet by Cartier circa 1928. Sotheby’s said that seven bidders battled for the piece, driving the final price to $2,165,000 and marking a new world auction record for any ‘Tutti Frutti’ bracelet by Cartier. The winning bid came from a private Asian collector, according to the auction house.
