Officially launching on Earth Day is sk*p, a new clean hair and body care brand that Founder Mark Veeder says is on mission to break the beauty industry’s addiction to plastic.

Packaged in its proprietary BeautyCarton, sk*p is the first to offer 100% recyclable paper-based carton containers that can hold up in the shower. The range currently includes body cleansers, face and body moisturizer, shampoo and conditioner.

The 100% recyclable, paper-based carton has more than 81% FSC certified paper and is manufactured in the brand’s own factory in New Jersey. There is no secondary packaging.

But there’s more to the brand than sustainable packaging; the formulations contain a common hero ingredient—G-Honey Biome, described as a complex-a bio-fermented honey extract made from the company’s own bee farms in upstate NY.

Veeder, who was an original co-founder of Farmacy Beauty, contends the honey rivals and exceeds the wellness properties of Manuka honey and it works with a body’s own biology to balance the skin and scalp’s microbiome. In a Zoom event with editors ahead of the launch, he said genomic testing revealed that the complex is anti-microbial, supports, strengthens and balances the skin’s microbiome and strengthens the skin’s barrier function.

The name sk*p—which is an acronym for Simply be Kind to our Planet—was inspired by the generation it was created for, namely tweens and teens. The brand is also forming an all-youth board of directors that will feature young environmental activists and is supporting climate change education Earth Day Network.

With the help of Earth Day Network, sk*p is developing a platform for extending environmental literacy and community give back programs to schools and campuses nationally.
