Neutralizes unwanted metals in hair— delivering optimal, desired results for both salon pros and clients.
July 29, 2021
By: Melissa Meisel
L’Oréal Professionnel is addressing the challenge of compromised color integrity and hair breakage due to metals with the new Metal Detox range. The product was revealed to beauty editors at a virtual event on July 27 with an inside look into the science of metals inside the hair from the perspective and expertise of Inventive Colorist and Certified Trichologist Bridgette Hill. Celebrity Colorist and Balayage Specialist, Min Kim and Hair Designer Charlie Le Mindu also participated in the showcase. How It Works Metal Detox features an advanced, patented technology and is formulated with Glicoamine, an innovative synthetic molecule thin enough to penetrate inside the hair fiber and neutralize metal. Glicoamine gently attracts built-up metals inside the hair fiber and effortlessly detoxes each strand, resulting in 87% less breakage and 100% reliable color, according to L’Oréal. In addition to performing over 102 instrumental tests in the labs with L’Oréal Professionnel scientists, the brand partnered with professional hairdressers to conduct over 1,000 tests on real clients, in real salon conditions prior to the global launch. “Over the past 7 years, we’ve partnered with the University of loannina to understand the impact of metal in hair, and we’ve finally created a breakthrough solution,” said Leila Hercouet, senior research associate: Innovation, L’Oréal Research and Development. About the Treatment Metal Detox consists of a 3-step in-salon protocol including the Pre-Treatment to neutralize metal before an in-salon color, balayage or lightening service; the sulfate-free Shampoo to gently remove metals; and the Conditioner/Mask options (for specific hair types) to protect the hair fiber from new metal particles. The in-salon protocol is suitable for use with any color, bleach and lightening brands, and on clients of all hair types. Colorists can prescribe clients the shampoo and mask as an at-home regimen to maintain post-color results. This regimen will protect the hair from interacting with metals in-between color, balayage and lightening services; maintain color vibrancy; and care for the hair after service. The complete L’Oréal Professionnel Metal Detox Protocol for professionals is now available to professionals at Saloncentric and State|RDA.
