The Estée Lauder Companies has acquired a minority stake in Haeckels, a UK-based, fragrance and skincare brand that supports the skin microbiome.

The investment will allow Haeckels to expand on its newly-launched skincare line, Indian Ocean Collection, and increase its production to keep up with demand. In the last two years, Haeckels opened two Haeckels House stores, the second in London with added treatment rooms and an events space.

The move will also allow for expansion into new international markets, according to company officials. Haeckels will continue to operate independently.

“Estée Lauder showed us that Haeckels can continue doing what we do best—championing sustainability, creating game-changing products, and fighting for greater beauty transparency, but with the financial backing and long-term mindset that only they could offer us,” the brand explained.

In an Instagram post, Haeckels stated its need for a “financial base” to bolster its “sustainable vision.”

“We went looking for a partner committed to a future that is built on transparency and trust,” the post read. “A future that we can design from the ground up with unwavering commitment to the planet, but also a partner that would understand the business of being ethical.”
