The Fragrance Creators are backing Congress’s recent efforts to modernize cosmetics regulations enforcing its commitment to responsible industry stewardship.
In a recent statement sent to Congress by Farah K. Ahmed, president and CEO of the Fragrance Creators Association, she emphasized the organization’s commitment to prioritizing safety and explaining how they work to promote the safe use of fragrances in products and rely on guidelines based on best-in-class science.
“We are proud of our industry’s excellent safety record, but also acknowledge that key statutory provisions authorizing the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) regulation of personal care products have not been updated in over 80 years,” read the statement. “We recognize the need for an update to ensure that FDA has the appropriate authority and resources it needs.”
She added that Fragrance Creators is the voice of the fragrance value chain and stands with its industry partners, the Personal Care Products Council, the Independent Beauty Association and the Consumer Healthcare Products Association to advance responsible industry stewardship.
“We applaud Congress’ efforts to modernize federal cosmetics regulations and urge all parties to come to a solution that creates a comprehensive and uniform national framework that advances science, safety, innovation, and consumer confidence,” the statement read. “We look forward to this legislation passing this year and to building upon our strong partnership with FDA to advance state of the art fragrance safety scientific methods. We will continue to work with legislators, including the Congressional Fragrance Caucus, allied trades, and all interested stakeholders to achieve our shared goal of modernizing the FDA’s regulatory framework.”
