Unilever-owned skincare brand Murad is partnering with Remedy Place in a new alliance that company executives contend forges a deeper bond between beauty, wellness and science.
Remedy Place is an upscale “social wellness club” that provides selfcare and slate of therapeutic services for mind and body. It is the brainchild of chiropractor Dr. Jonathan Leary, who, after treating patients and operating a concierge practice, opened the first Remedy club in 2019 in West Hollywood. This fall, a second club has opened in New York City. This new Flatiron location, which is larger than the one in California, brings to the East Coast Remedy Place’s blend of alternative and functional medicine, ancient practices and modern wellness technologies—think hyperbaric chambers, chiropractic adjustments, cupping and vitamin drips—in a sleek, modern lounge-like space.
Starting today, November 1, Remedy will offer what’s called the “Remedy Place x Murad total skin health experience,” a four-part experience that covers each of Dr. Murad’s four pillars of wellness—nourish your skin, eat your water, awaken your body and be kind to your mind by utilizing a treatment for each from Remedy Place.
“We believe in a holistic approach to skin health supported by these pillars as it’s important to care for your physical, mental and emotional well-being. This approach is the foundation of our brand, just as Remedy Place’s holistic approach to wellness is the cornerstone of theirs,” said Paul Schiraldi, CEO of Murad.
Murad contends the partnership honors Founder Dr. Howard Murad’s long-held philosophy that daily stress-reducing practices and other associated changes made to achieve true skin health can transform the well-being of your entire life.
“Remedy Place’s holistic approach to internal and external health strongly resonates with Murad’s belief that total skin health is dependent on more than just using the right topical products,” Schiraldi told Happi. “To achieve your healthiest and happiest skin, it’s important to care for the rest of your body too – inside and out. Our partnership with Remedy Place continues to connect the dots between beauty, wellness and science.”
According to Dr. Leary, the alliance with Murad came to fruition after EVP and CEO of Unilever Prestige Vasiliki Petrou came in for a tour when she was in Los Angeles.
“Their team loves wellness and they found Remedy through Social media. They absolutely loved the space and their experience and after a few more conversations with their senior team, approached us with a partnership idea to align with Murad, one of the Unilever Prestige portfolio brands that is rooted in a holistic approach to skin health. It's very exciting to work and align with a partner that has the same belief system when it comes to well-being,” said Leary.
The Remedy Place x Murad Menu is:
• Eat Your Water
Dose Daily Wellness Shot
Elements of Balance Wellness Tonic
• Awaken Your Body
Ice Bath
Cryotherapy
• Be Kind To Your Mind
Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber
Lymphatic Compression
• Nourish Your Skin
Multi-Vitamin Drip
Red Light or Infrared Sauna
Those who opt into the menu will also receive complimentary deluxe Murad products to continue their skin care from home, according to the companies.
For Leary, the accord isn’t about adding skincare products.
“This partnership is more rooted in alignment than a direct integration of their products into our services, which we also believe will make a more meaningful and long-term impact for both brands. As a leading ‘OG’ in skincare that prioritizes a holistic approach to healthy skin, we have created a special ‘secret menu’ of Remedy services that plays off of the four pillars of Murad's skincare beliefs. The services that we offer at Remedy align closely with their founding principles, so it's an IRL way for people to get to experience their holistic approach beyond just skincare,” said Leary.
He noted, “What I see for Remedy Place (and self-care) is it’s like creating the first gym before the fitness industry boom. More people are going to practice self-care than work out and Remedy plans to lead the way.”
In May, Remedy Place close of a $5 million Bridge Round of investments and a valuation of $60 million.
Leary told Happi the future will be all about self-care, alternative medicine and healthy social activities.
“In the current state of the world and what I have been watching shift over the past 10 years, I see that these are not trends, I truly see these being here to stay and I could not be more excited about it,” he said.
Leary said he has picked out “handful of” his next Remedy locations and his plan is to have clubs in every major city around the world.
“Next year you will see Remedy Place branch out to a couple more avenues of business,” he continued. “Our short term goal is to make people feel good through self-care and human connection and our long term goal is to positively impact healthcare through free education to teach people how to take care of themselves and eventually be the leading funder in alternative medicine research.”
