The predictions for 2023’s biggest trends is the result of months of data analysis and evaluation. For the last three years, eight out of 10 trends came true thanks to robust methodology and analysis. This year, Pinterest analyzed what people have been looking for on the platform to identify the key trends that will emerge or continue to grow in 2023.
Gemini Hair
In 2023, two-toned tresses will take off more than ever. Gen Z and Millennials are behind this rising trend in hair color that mixes natural hues with bright blues, purples and pinks —“blue and black braids” and “lavender and blonde hair” are on the up. Searches for blue and black braids are up +215%; lavender and blonde hair are up +150%; pink and lavender hair +345%; brown to pink balayage +280%; and multi-tone hair color +135%.
Micro Makeover
Millennials and Gen Z are trading in their long, coffin-shaped nails for mini French manicures. For hairstyles, they’ll opt for short braids and chopped bangs instead of long, luscious locks. Searches for micro French nails are +235%; chopped bob haircut +550%; micro bangs +110%; short stiletto nails +80%; and short braid hairstyles are +45%.
Crown Care
“Skinification,” or a focus on the scalp and crown of your head, will be a priority in the new year. Searches from Gen X and Boomers show an uptick in care for the scalp, like “scalp treatment” and “clean scalp.” Searches for scalp massage techniques are +55%; clean scalp +55%; scalp treatment for dry scalp +70%; natural hair mask for growth +80%; and clean scalp build up +45%.
