Retinol is a widely-used ingredient in numerous facial care products because of its strong efficacy in reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, improving skin firmness, increasing elasticity and reducing skin photodamage. In fact, retinol has long been regarded a hero product in the anti-aging category. A survey of US female consumers indicated that 74% of the respondents use retinol for fine lines and wrinkles. Results from the survey revealed that 59% of the respondents purchase cosmetics that list retinol as an ingredient. Consumers understand the efficacy and value of retinol as a key ingredient in the products that are part of their skincare routine.

Currently, consumers have a strong interest in clean personal care products. Recent insights from a Mintel survey indicated that 42% of the respondents choose clean products because they think the ingredients are higher quality than traditional products. Brands, both major and indie, have responded to this growing interest by offering more products with clean ingredients.

To address the needs of the clean beauty market, DSM has launched Retinol CB 50, a new and more sustainable grade of retinol that is free of both BHA and BHT. The solvent (polysorbate) from fossil source has been replaced by a natural derived mixture of alkanes and the most potent antioxidant version of Tocopherols, the natural mixed tocopherols, was added to protect the retinol. Retinol CB 50 is the ideal ingredient for clean beauty brands.

Retinol CB 50 addresses many of today’s top skin concerns. It improves the appearance of lines and wrinkles, increases firmness and elasticity and reduces skin photodamage effects. Additionally, Retinol CB %) in combination with BEAUACTIVE (INCI: Hydroxystearic acid) synergistic boost collagen III by 238%, five times more than retinol alone.
