Premium beauty and wellness treatments that highlight the iconic cheeses that define Wisconsin—think Cheddar Facemask and Facial Fondue—are on the menu at The "Wedgewater" Spa in Madison, WI.
Yes, they’re pulling your leg—or better yet, udder. The Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin, a non-profit organization that focuses on marketing and promoting Wisconsin's dairy products, created the idea for April Fool’s Day.
The spa's cheesey menu includes some less than appetizing concepts—like the Salt Brine Bliss Colonic and Limburger Moisturizing Mist. But others may not be too far-fetched. The Rind Scrub, for example, says it uses rinds from the hard cheeses to exfoliate. Hey cosmetic chemists, that’s an upcycled ingredient!
In the prank media release, expert “Dairyl Bechamel,” discuses "essential proteins, natural fats and amino acids in cheese provide the ultimate moisturizing and anti-aging benefits.”

While the "Wedgewater's" Limburger Moisturizer Mist is faux, the Edgewater Spa in Madison—a partner in the April Fool's Day fun—is a real location that does offer special treatments that incorporate dairy elements. For instance, its Brightening Facial features a gel-based peel with lactic acid derived from dairy that provides deep, yet gentle exfoliation. The spa’s Farmhouse Fresh Mani/Pedi incorporates a sweet cream scrub and sweet milk lotion. The treatment is said to hydrate and leave a light velvety note of warm sweet cream in the air.
According to the Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin, 90% of the milk produced in the state is turned into cheese.
“We had a gouda time working with the Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin on this special opening and hope many guests relax and reboot with our dairy-inspired specials throughout April," Claire Varrelmann, director of marketing, The Edgewater, told Happi. "Our goal is to provide a luxury spa experience, with curd-eous service of course.”
