Blush was a must-have beauty product in summer 2022. Brands like Benefit’s WANDERful World Silky-Soft Powder Blush Mini flew off the shelves at Ulta Beauty.
In recent months, beauty influencers have introduced “douyin blush,” a technique involving making a “V” shape on several parts of the face, in addition to under-eye blush, to mask dark circles and clear blush to sculpt and brighten the face. Unlike traditional blush, clear blush is devoid of color, pigment and shimmer. Instead, it goes on clear and transforms into a sheer flush on the skin.
Purple blush promises to be more effective than the classic pink blushes in creating a “healthier” glow. In fact, #purpleblush has more than 60 million views exclusive of its derivatives. American TikTok users from Mikayla Nogueira to Sarah Wolak were main drivers to this success, experimenting with such variations from lavender to lilac, mauve, eggplant and more.
While this purple blush isn’t particularly a new beauty trick, as stars like Rihanna have been using it for years, it does, however, imply a return to a celebration of bright hues as the Covid-19 pandemic gets more in the rearview.
