A fire that broke out on Friday, July 14 at a Dow Chemical facility in Louisiana that produces ethylene oxide has been extinguished.
The fire occurred at Dow's Gylcol 2 Unit in Plaquemine, one of four operated by the company in the state. The “remaining small” fire was extinguished early on July 16, according to officials.
All employees are safe and accounted for, said Dow.
“We are not experiencing disruptions to other site operations. We are continuing to assess the incident and will have more information about the products involved, the impact on operations, and next steps when it is available,” Dow Louisiana Operations wrote in a Facebook post at 11:59 pm on Sunday, July 16.
Out of an abundance of caution, a shelter in place in the local area was implemented. It was lifted at 3:42 a.m. on July 15.
