The Household & Commercial Products Association’s (HCPA) Microbiology Preservation Subcommittee (MPS) is seeking comments on method guidance for Designation MMG005, which recommends approaches for determining the preservative efficacy within consumer household and industrial aqueous-based finished products and aqueous-based raw materials, such as emulsions, gels, slurries, pre-blends and pastes that may be susceptible to microbial spoilage.
Reviewers will have until Dec. 8, 2023, to submit comments regarding the preservative efficacy test (PET) method guidance.

MPS has developed a series of general microbiology guidance and method guidance documents to promote the voluntary standards of microbiological quality that are conducive to addressing regulatory requirements and identifying appropriate considerations for the research, development, and manufacturing of products with responsible and effective preservation, according to HCPA.
