Dr. Zein Obagi, whose research, products, and philosophy have impacted the field of therapeutic skincare for more than three decades, recently celebrated the launch of his new book, The Art of Skin Health – Restoration and Rejuvenation, Second Edition, as well as three new products from ZO Skin Health, Inc. The event, held in the Penthouse of the London Hotel, was a fitting antidote on a snowy winter’s night in New York, when skin is put to the test by the elements.
Dr. Obagi, a researcher, scientist, author and board-certified dermatologist is the founder and medical director of ZO Skin Health, Inc. and continues to be responsible for the development of skincare treatments, protocols, and new products designed to achieve and maintain healthy skin. A unique philosophy focused on healthy skin has distinguished the work of Obagi through the years, and his latest launches and recent publication emphasize the importance of knowing your skin and its needs.
James Headley, CEO of ZO Skin Health, spoke to the essence of the brand, saying, “We’re the perfect storm. We only sell to doctors and we’ve got incredible products. We remain true to our positioning channel, we don’t sell to third parties, and we’re not sold on the internet. We keep the control of the products very tight.”
Among the newest launches was Ossential Lash Enhancing Serum, created to visibly improve eyelash length and volume. Its proprietary blend of ingredients is said to have created longer lashes in four out of the five subjects studied over a period of four weeks. The serum will not cause a change in eye color, is said to be safe for everyday use and may also be used on eyebrows. Each evening before bed, after cleansing and drying the eye area, it is to be applied to the upper and lower lash line. The applicator pen is to be held upright and 2-4 clicks on the bottom of the tube will provide the proper amount of serum per application.
ZO Skin Health’s second product is a clinically-proven acne and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) treatment and prevention said to minimize post acne scarring. Called AkneBright, the targeted treatment for relief of acne lesions and PIH uses the power of encapsulated salicylic acid to prevent the formation of new pigmentation spots. It contains broccoli extract, sunflower seed oil, and glucosamine to calm and soothe redness. To help the skin heal, it utilizes Manuka Honey, a natural microbial known for wound healing, to help prevent post acne scarring. In clinical studies, Manuka Honey is said to stimulate tissue growth in wounds in seven days by over 60%.
The third product is the ZO Medical Post Procedure Recovery System. This three product system, which includes Pomatrol, Surfatrol and Regenacell, is designed for use after chemical peels, laser resurfacing, or any combined ablative treatment. The three products in the kit offer a variety of potent proteins and growth factors that accelerate healing and skin recovery rates by up-regulating the re-epithilialization process of wound healing. The product, only available through physicians’ offices, also aids in scarless wound healing.
According to CEO, Headley, “ZO Skin Health continues to pioneer into the future by offering our customers unique aesthetic products proven to help improve their skin health and improve their appearance.”
Dr. Obagi addressed the attendees with a pointed message. “Skin health is the way to the future. The women today tend to believe the hype of today’s market,” cautioned Obagi, whose book focuses on techniques and regimens for revitalizing skin.
In it are approaches to correcting sun damage, the removal of pre-cancerous cells, control of the pigmentary system, and stimulating collagen to restore skin’s elasticity. He noted that it took three years to write the book and he believes it is a foundation for skin health.
“My book is an awakening. This is the future of skin care. You will see the explosion that will happen in the next three to five years in skin care. We manufactured these products to make you feel good. The book is a straight message to physicians, plastic surgeons, and the media to tell the public two simple things. See a doctor to know your skin type and needs. Your skin needs hydration, stimulation, and moisturization to keep it young looking. Learn to care for your skin with the right products and services,” said Obagi.
