French organic beauty brand Melvita is selling two gift sets for Holiday 2012 with a subtle indie approach. The company is housing its popular Rose skin care products in decorative packaging featuring photographer Ryan McGinley’s prints.
With roots in the skateboarding scene stemming from hanging out at Aaron Rose’s famed Alleged Gallery in New York City, McGinley’s work has since been on display at The Whitney Museum of American Art, The Guggenheim and other museums and galleries around the globe.

The Melvita Rose Large Gift Set ($45) includes a Rose Nectar Skin Cream, Rose Shower Gel and Rose Hand Cream; while The Rose Mini Gift Set ($20) includes Rose Floral Water, Rose Fresh Body Milk and Rose Hand Cream.
Artist designed packaging is a key trend right now in the beauty world. NARS recently debuted its Andy Warhol collection, while Kiehl’s is selling a limited edition Kenny Scharf lotion. Also, Smashbox is said to be teaming up with street artist Curtis Kulig for a special Spring 2013 collection.
But unlike the art on the products itself, Melvita chose to keep the photography just on the box and keep the SKUs the same. Which matches up with the sensibility of the photos, as those familiar with McGinley’s work may speculate if there’s more to the pictures on the packaging.
