CES 2023 gets underway, officially, on January 5 when multiple show floors spread across Las Vegas open their doors. But media folk—Happi included—get their first look starting today. I'm excited to be back onsite in Las Vegas for the first time since
January 2020. I am ready to scope out all the beauty, homecare and personal care tech IRL.
Before I hit the ground running, here’s a quick look of what has caught my attention right out of the gate, even before the ribbon is cut on Thursday….
New Beauty Tech…..
For starters, I can’t wait to meet with Neutrogena to learn more about its
just-announced ingestible beauty collaboration with Nourished, a developer of 3D printed supplements. In addition, will be checking out the mySkin F.A.I.N AI-powered skin analyzer; a new handheld microblading pen called Blackberry that injects cosmetic pigments into the topmost layer of the skin to produce a semi-permanent makeup tattoo;
Cosmechip, Amorepacific’s at-home beauty device that creates skincare using waterless active formulations; and Young&Be Bio-radiance Microcurrent Mask. This facial sheet mask, which uses iontophoresis technology to enhance the absorption of cosmetics ingredients, features a proprietary “clean-tech” paper-based power source.
Solutions for Scalp Health….
Scalp care is a growing trend in the topical haircare market and there are new tools at CES for both analysis and treatment of this skin-hair nexus. We’ll make at stop to see Aramhuvis Co.’s AI Scalp Grader, which classifies scalp conditions into 10 types and prescribes individual scalp care solutions featuring shampoos and serums; the Dr. Finger Volume Booster (ver.2.0), which uses AI to predict hair loss and provide a customized solution; and Pixie Dust Technologies' SonoRepro, a handheld ultrasonic scalp care device that applies vibration pressure from ultrasound waves to stimulate the scalp.
Must haves for CES: water, coffee and comfy footwear.
AlgaeTech….
Also exhibiting at CES this year is Algal Bio Co., which promotes algae-derived products and solutions via its “Algae Biofoundry Platform.” Based on 20-plus years of research by the University of Tokyo, the platform helps identify ideal algae strains for various applications from wellness to bioplastics.
Tech for Better Teeth…..
CES also provides a showcase for the latest in oral health apps and devices. This year, we’re planning to check out the Y Brush, a toothbrush that reportedly brushes teeth effectively in 10 seconds via its unique shape and sonic vibration. There’s also something called the “Truthbrush” Connected Oral Care system. It is described as fully automatic and universal solution for seamless toothbrush tracking and it can be attached to any brand of toothbrush manual or electric. We’re also interested in learning more about Sovn’s device for teeth grinding and clenching. This smart “hearable” delivers gentle vibrations that nudge users to relax their jaws when grinding or clenching is detected.
A Breath of Fresh Air Care….
Air health isn’t new to CES; pre-pandemic shows had a smattering of monitors and purifiers on display. But covid-19 has moved this category further into spotlight. There are more devices being pitched to consumers than ever before from wearables to tabletop units—but we plan on getting a closer look at PuriCare Aero Furniture from LG Electronics. This CES 2023 Innovation Award nominee is billed as an air purifier that blurs the line between home furnishings and appliances.
A Walk in the (Eureka) Park....
No visit to CES is complete without hitting Eureka Park. This crowded venue has a vibe all its own and is where you will find myriad start-ups and unique products of all sorts. In fact, Algale Bio Co (mentioned above) will be stationed here. We’ll be on the hunt for others in beauty and household care here for sure.
…..What else?
For the first time, CES 2023 will have a dedicated
metaverse area on the show floor (think sensory technology and blockchain) and there’s will be a lot to see in others categories that Happi covers from a smart-phone attachment that treats bug bites to the latest in washing machine technology. And there’s sure to be news from sectors adjacent to Happi’s market coverage, especially in digital health and wellness….. Stay tuned!
