CZECHOSLOVAKIA: Brite Smile, created in the U.S., is gaining popularity in Central and Eastern Europe.
Steve Pleickhardt, owner of American Dental Associates (ADA) in Prague, has been whitening people’s teeth for 20 years and calls the Brite Smile system “state of the art.”
Brite Smile is advanced and unique because it uses a blue light gun that activates the whitening gel for immediate results, Mr. Pleickhardt said.
Whitening products have received a bad rap because of the pain often associated with cleaning tools, but the systems are more advanced now, according to Kate Dlouha, a dental hygienist at ADA.
“If there is dehydration of the teeth, it causes sensitivity to the nerve endings,” she said. “The secret is water.”
ADA averages about one or two clients a week for the process. The price can be a deterrent, however. “It’s pretty expensive,” said Ms. Dlouha, “but for somebody who has dark shades, it’s really a nice change.”
