Cognis Appoints Burns Director of Sales NAFTA



Cognis Care Chemical:

Tom Burns has been named director of sales NAFTA for Cognis Care Chemicals. Mr. Burns has over 20 years of experience in the personal care and HI&I industry. Prior to this appointment, he was market manager for the consumer specialties division of Interpolymer Corp. He also held a variety of domestic and international assignments at Lonza Inc. and Rhodia.

Sean Maguire has been appointed NAFTA regional sales manager, Lab Sero Active Cosmetics, in addition to his existing role as business manager, Care Chemicals-Canada. Mr. Maguire has over 20 years of sales and business management experience.

 Pierce of Cognis
Debbie Pierce has joined Cognis as a West Coast sales account representative. Ms. Pierce has over 25 years of experience in the cosmetics industry. Most recently she was vice president R&D for California Tan. Previously she held a variety of positions with Bocchi Labs, Redken, Vidal Sasson and ISP.

Tri-K:

Hired Shawn Brown as R&D chemist. He began his career at Takasago International as a fragrance lab technician, before taking a similar position at Avon in its skin care product development department. He graduated from Seton Hall with a bachelor of arts in biology.


International Specialty Products:

Dr. Stuart Porter has joined International
 Brown of Tri-K
Specialty Products Inc. (ISP) as senior science fellow to lead new product development and provide technical service support for Advantia Coating Systems. Prior to joining ISP, Dr. Porter was working as a consultant to ISP on Advantia Coating Systems.

In his new position, Dr. Porter will have a primary role in directing ISP’s research teams and developing products for immediate-release and modified-release oral solid-dosage forms. In addition to his R&D role, Dr. Porter will continue to provide technical support to ISP customers.

Dr. Porter has over 25 years of experience in the application of film coatings,

formulation of immediate- and modified-release coating products, tabletting processes and related technologies.

International Flavors & Fragrances Inc.:

Appointed Lorenzo Cavallaro to the position of vice president sales, North America fine fragrances. In his new position, Mr. Cavallaro will be responsible for the continued growth of IFF’s fine fragrance business in North America. Mr. Cavallaro joined IFF in 2004 as a global account manager. In addition to delivering significant sales growth, he has been instrumental in developing IFF’s prominent position with strategic accounts.


Risdon International:

Faqueer Ahmad was appointed to the Risdon Asia
 Cavallaro of IFF
management team as executive vice president and managing director. Mr. Ahmad formerly served as Risdon’s executive vice president, international. He will now take up residence in China where he will oversee Risdon’s operations.

Jackie Khong has been appointed director of operations at Risdon Asia’s metal forming and finishing facility. Mr. Khong was most recently employed as director of operations at Intercos (China).

Philip Teu has been appointed director of operations at Risdon Asia’s plastics plant. Mr. Teu formerly worked for ATP (China).

Linda Cooper was named company liaison between Risdon’s U.S. manufacturing facilities and Risdon Asia operations. Her responsibilities will include product coordination and customer service. Ms. Cooper was formerly
 Ahmad of Risdon
employed at ATP.


Pilot Chemical Company:

Robert Pifer was hired as regional sales manager for all account activities in the Northeastern market. He held previous positions with Uniqema/Croda, Tomah Products and Cognis Corp.
 

Symrise:

David Apel is the new senior perfumer in the fine fragrance team at Symrise. Mr. Apel has composed numerous fragrances including creations for Cerruti, Hugo Boss, Armani, Calvin Klein and Escada. Mr. Apel began his career as a compounder at Givaudan. After becoming a perfumer, he continued his career at Givaudan and Givaudan Roure.

Symrise has appointed Dominique Yates chief financial officer. He joins from Imperial Tobacco Group, where he held various financial and management positions, most recently as group business development director.

Stephanus Korver will strengthen Symrise’s team of perfumers in the area of home care products, working primarily on creating perfume oils for use in laundry detergents. Prior to this assignment, he worked in the areas of functional and household fragrances for companies such as Naarden, Quest, Dragoco and Takasago.

Richard van Dijk will lend his assistance to projects for global key accounts; he will also work as a research perfumer, providing support for the Symrise scent and care team. Mr. Van Dijk has extensive experience in creative fragrance development, particularly in the area of cosmetics and toiletries. Both perfumers will work for Symrise in Holzminden.

Surefil:

Hired Jamie Stackhouse as human resources generalist. Mr. Stackhouse, who has eight years of combined human resources and training experience, is PHR certified and also has a background in Spanish. Mr. Stackhouse has an associate’s degree from Ancilla College and a bachelor of arts from Ball State University.

N.V. Perricone:

Christina Banas has been appointed to the new role of executive director global communications. In addition to her current role as the head of education in the U.S. market, Ms. Banas will expand her territory to cover the brand’s education needs globally and, more significantly, she will serve as the brand liaison to the media.

Bare Escentuals:

Jim Taschetta has been appointed to the newly created position of chief marketing officer. Reporting directly to chief executive officer Leslie Blodgett, Mr. Taschetta is responsible for all of the company’s marketing and product development initiatives.

“Strengthening our strategic marketing efforts is critical to our continued success,” said Mr. Blodgett, chief executive officer. “Jim has a proven track record in developing some of the world’s most widely recognized brands. His impressive global-branding insights and expertise will serve us well as we work to enhance the awareness and understanding of the Bare Escentuals brand worldwide. We are delighted to welcome Jim to our team.”

A 20-year marketing veteran, Mr. Taschetta has held positions at Visa USA, Inc., Yodlee, The Coca-Cola Company and The Procter & Gamble Company.

USP:

USP Inc., the parent company of Enjoy Products in Oceanside, CA, appointed Brandon Terhaar as national sales manager. Mr. Terhaar will work closely with regional sales managers to oversee all aspects of North American distributor sales.

Aware:

Aware Products of Chatsworth, CA has promoted Todd Shea marketing director for Aware Personalized Branding. In his new position, Mr. Shea is responsible for all aspects of marketing and advertising including product and packaging development, program and system development, retail collateral and retail marketing programs.
    Mr. Shea has implemented marketing programs for Aveda, Aramis, Bobbi Brown Essentials, Christian Dior, Chanel and Lancome.

Fragrance Foundation:

Elected Neil J. Katz, chairman and chief executive officer of Parlux Fragrances, Inc., to serve on the Foundation’s board, which serves to enhance the image of the fragrance industry and expand the appreciation and use of fragrance in all its forms across all distribution channels globally.

According to Parlux, Mr. Katz is pleased to have the opportunity to rejoin the Board of Directors of the Foundation, where he previously served from 1996 to 2002, including a term as the Foundation’s first vice chairman from 2000 to 2002. Mr. Katz’s career history includes such leadership positions as president of Liz Claiborne Cosmetics and president of Revlon Beauty Care Division. The Foundation was established in 1949 by six industry leaders affiliated with Elizabeth Arden, Coty, Guerlain, Helena Rubenstein, Chanel, and Parfums Weil, to develop educational programs about the importance and pleasures of fragrance for the American public.

Drom:

Alexandre Caron was appointed key account manager. Mr. Caron will be responsible for the management and global coordination of drom’s L’Oréal account, operating out of Drom’s Paris office. He is a graduate of ISIPCA, and previously worked for Quest International in different countries, including England and Thailand.
