Seaquist Closures is one of the first companies in the closure industry to form a “Sustainability Team” dedicated to increasing its focus on environmental sustainability issues, according to Anne Stecker, food market manager.
The team is the result of a larger effort by Seaquist Closures’ parent company Aptar Group to create a corporate-wide Green Initiative. The company has created six such teams across its divisions in the U.S.
“Seaquist has long-established programs within our plant to reduce packaging, recycle industrial waste and increase the energy efficiency of our operations,” said Mary Sieger senior commodity specialist at Seaquist Closures.
“As we experience success in these areas, our clients are actually realizing financial benefits,” added Ms. Sieger.
She also noted that the challenges of implementing an environmental program are daunting, but critical.
“Seaquist has long-established programs within our plant to reduce packaging, recycle industrial waste and increase the energy efficiency of our operations,” said Ms. Sieger.
“It is our goal to make environmental responsibility a priority at all levels of the Seaquist organization from choices made by individual employees at work and in their homes to overall corporate policy and procedures.”
Seaquist Closures’ pour spout line is an example of its most recent green efforts. The company’s latest new product—the Ultra Pour Spout—boasts the industry’s lightest part weights in its category. This design is currently available in both 33-400 and 38-400 sizes. Seaquist Closures also created two of the lightest invertable closures in the industry. These new 2 1/8-inch closure designs include the Lock-Back Lid and Ribbed Snap Top.
As a group, these products have reduced part weights by as much as 25%. This means greater conservation, less waste and important savings for customers, noted Ms. Sieger.
