DSM recently introduced Parsol SLX High Protection, The new product is built on the synergistic combinations of Parsol SLX, Parsol HS, and Parsol 1789. Although, registration as a UV filter in the U.S. is pending, it is allowed as a cosmetic ingredient.
DSM offers Parsol SLX High Protection in two versions—a three filter combination (level 1: SPF >30) and a four filter combination (level 2: SPF >40. The line was on display at the 25th Congress of the International Federation Societies of Cosmetic Chemists, which was held Oct. 6-9 in Barcelona.
Parsol SLX High Protection offers the following benefits:
• Maximum performance for both UVA and UVB protection with a very low overall UV filter content.
• Compliance with the EU recommendation on efficacy of sunscreens (UVA:UVB >1:3).
• High degree of safety due to the use of polymeric and water soluble UVB filters.
• Superior cost/performance ratio compared to UV filter combinations used in commercial SPF 30 sun care products.
According to new EU recommendations, all high protection sunscreens must have an SPF of at least 30. In addition, the sunscreen product must demonstrate a UVA protection factor (either in vivo or in vitro) of at least 1/3 of the labeled SPF. All Parsol SLX High Protection formulations fulfill the new EU recommendation and are designed to deliver high protection (SPF >30).
