It may have lost the first battle, but Alliance Boots, the British retailer, will fight on. Six years ago, the company exported several of its beauty lines to the U.S. via partnerships with Target and CVS Pharmacy. The deal with CVS ended earlier this year, but now Boots is planning to ramp up its activities in the U.S.
For example, several Boots’ beauty brands, including No7, Botanics and Mediterranean, are sold on Drugstore.com and across the Target chain, where 300 doors are outfitted with Boots beauty advisers.
However, the company has no plans to open stores in the U.S., executives said. Instead, Boots will continue to cohabitate with strong North American retailers. That's because company executives insist that the market is already too concentrated and they fear being squeezed by the likes of Walgreens and CVS.
Boots has similar alliances around the world and its products are available in more than 3,250 doors.
