Although video footage of a topless man catching fire after applying aerosol spray sunscreen made YouTube months ago, only in the past few days has a consumer group taken up the cause with a website to take advantage of the situation.
Last year Energizer Holdings recalled 23 Banana Boat aerosol sunscreen formulas after consumers caught on fire after coming into contact with sparks or flames, such as from a barbeque grill.
“Banana Boat’s recall last year was too late for the Brett Sigworth, Mary Shoulders and the other burn victims. Customers should learn about the potential risks before using aerosol sunscreen products," said Ian Mikusko, who maintains www.bananaburnt.org, a website that was launched to alert customers to the risks associated with aerosol sunscreen products.
To its credit, the folks at Banana Burnt admit, "There is no evidence that Banana Boat products that are currently on the market are unsafe."
