Sephora Americas promoted Julie Bornstein to chief marketing and digital officer. For the past five years, she served as senior vice president, Sephora Digital and a member of Sephora’s Operating Committee.In this time, she has overseen the doubling in size of the e-commerce business, launched Sephora into mobile as an early retail leader, undertaken pioneering initiatives in social media, led the creation of unique and compelling digital in-storeexperiences, substantially grew Sephora’s loyalty program Beauty Insider, and successfully launched a world-class website, sephora.com.
In her new role, she will continue to lead these areas and assume responsibility for brand and store marketing, public relations and creative, formerly led by Sharon Rothstein. Bornstein will report to Alessandro Bogliolo, Chief Operating Officer of Sephora Americas.
Prior to joining Sephora, Bornstein served as the general manager of Urban Outfitters Direct where she led the growth of the web and catalog division. Before Urban Outfitters, she served as vice president of Ecommerce for Nordstrom from 2000-2005, joining as Nordstrom launched its first website to grow the business to over $350 million, and overseeing merchandising, marketing, creative and customer experience for the website and catalog.
Bornstein started her career in merchandising at DKNY, and also worked in business development at Starbucks and in Investment Banking in the Consumer practice of Robertson Stephens. She sits on the Board of Directors of TheFind.com and Stitchfix, both start-up technology companies in the Bay Area.Bornstein has her BA and MBA degrees from Harvard.
