Jane Iredale Mineral Cosmetics, Ltd. has launched an innovative iPad app, Jane iredale Virtual Makeover, allowing consumers and professionals to create true-to-life makeup applications with unprecedented functionality, all using the comprehensive line of mineral makeup from the brand. It is one of the first-ever apps with capabilities to smudge makeup, adjust brush size and blend and layer different products and shades over one another, allowing users to achieve the customized effects makeup delivers in reality, said the company.
Designed in partnership with Modiface and available exclusively for iPad tablets, the app is an extension of Jane Iredale’s successful Virtual Makeover Room for desktop computers. In the app, users are first prompted to choose a photo, which they can take using the iPad camera or upload from Facebook, their iPad photo album or provided model images. Users can then tap a facial feature on the photo to bring up a scrollable color wheel showing all available makeup shades and categories for that feature. To enhance discovery, only product colors are initially displayed, and the full product name appears once selected by the user. Users apply color using their fingers as a brush, and can tap or swipe along a continuum to increase or decrease brush size. Commands to undo, redo, clear, start over with a new photo, adjust facial recognition and compare before and after photos are available throughout the process.
Selecting “finalize” shows users their before and after images side by side, as well as a list of products used and the option to purchase individual products or the complete look from shop.janeiredale.com, or find a brick and mortar retailer nearest them. Users’ looks and product recommendations can be saved, emailed or shared via Twitter and Facebook directly from the app.
