Shiseido's sales rose more than 12% in local currency to nearly $7.5 billion for the year ended March 31, 2014. The company credited the gain to improvement in the Japanese cosmetics market, turnaround in Europe and new domestic policies by the Japanese government.
Domestic sales increased 1.1% and international sales jumped 26.4%, the later helped along by strong US results for the Nars and Shiseido brands. With the growth in international markets, more than 50% of Shiseido's sales came from outside Japan in fiscal 2014.
Looking ahead, the company expects international cosmetics sales to rose more than 25% this year, while domestic sales will decline nearly 2%
