SC Johnson continues to climb the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) National Top 100 list of the largest green power users. In 2015, SC Johnson moved up to No. 71, in recognition for using more than 73 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of green power annually, enough to meet 43% of the organization's electricity use in the US.
According to the EPA, that's equivalent to the carbon dioxide emissions captured by more than 41,000 acres of U.S. forests annually.
"We are honored to continue to earn this important recognition from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency," said Kelly M. Semrau, Senior Vice President, global corporate affairs, communication and sustainability for SC Johnson. "Reducing our environmental footprint is not only a priority within the United States, but at all of our facilities around the world. From wind power to even co-generation powered by methane from a public closed landfill, we continue to make progress toward our aggressive sustainability goals."
SC Johnson is also among the top companies for on-site generation. At No.10, the Top 30 On-site Generation list represents those partners generating and consuming the most green power on-site within the Green Power Partnership. The combined on-site green power consumption of these organizations amounts to more than 945 million kilowatt-hours of green power annually, which is equivalent to the electricity use of nearly 90,000 average American homes each year.
According to the EPA, green power is electricity that is generated from environmentally preferable renewable resources, such as wind, solar, geothermal, biogas, biomass and low-impact hydro.
