President Barak Obama has signed into law H.R. 1321: Microbead-Free Waters Act of 2015. The act was passed by the House and Senate on Dec 18.
The bill phases out the manufacture of facewash, toothpaste and shampoo containing plastic microbeads by July 1, 2017 and the sale of such beauty products by July 1, 2018.
Following in the footsteps of California’s ban enacted earlier this year, H.R. 1321, introduced by Reps. Frank Pallone (D-NJ) and Fred Upton (R-MI), bans all plastic microbeads from beauty products, including those made from biodegradable plastics.
