Sunscreens typically require a high amount of oil to both solubilize organic UV filters and improve the feel of the lotion on skin. As most non-polar preservatives are hydrophobic, they tend to migrate into the oil phase, leaving the water phase poorly protected.
The quest for a polar preservative to protect the water phase and mitigate the risk of contamination has proved a challenge, but one Sharon Laboratories has weathered.
SharoSENSE Plus 184’s highly active preservation solution is an innovative polar preservative system that provides uncompromised antimicrobial efficacy at a dramatically lower level of use of 0.7%. The broad spectrum, non-pH-dependent preservative is compatible with cationic and anionic formulations.
In lower SPF formulations, water remains the microbial battlefield, however, the risk is lower. A wider range of preservatives can be used in a formula with lower oily phase. A preservative with lower polarity index can be used that's high in efficacy, delivered from Sharomix AM25.
Sharomix AM25 is a preservative solution that offers amplified efficacy. The broad spectrum sunscreen is also non-pH-dependent and compatible with cationic and anionic formulations.
