Vegan skincare brand Skin Proud will launch a “Cowfunding” Campaign this month to raise money for the Animal Equality Charity. The cruelty-free brand will donate up to 50% of online profits to Animal Equality Charity to reduce the suffering of animals in the UK and the US. Animal Equality is an international organization working with society, governments, and companies to end cruelty to farmed animals.
“It’s truly sad to see how little people know about how dairy cows fare when it comes to farming,” said Nora Zukauskaite, marketing director for Skin Proud. “We need to raise awareness of the treatment of cows as a result of dairy farming, looking at alternatives as well as taking a look at the beauty industry impact and looking at vegan options.”
A survey commissioned by the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals-approved brand found that 2,000 adults said the main drive for trying vegan products was due to worries of environmental impacts (37%) and concerns over animal welfare (32%). What’s more, they found that one in three are more willing to try vegan skincare than vegan milk – with nearly half (47%) of people claiming cows’ milk negatively affects their skin.
Of those surveyed, those who claim cows’ milk negatively affects their skin say they suffer from dry skin (59%), acne (55%) and puffiness (48%) as a result. The brand also found that nearly half are unaware of the impact of dairy farming on cows. Of the 60% who are aware of the impact, seven out of 10 said knowing this makes them more inclined to try dairy-free milk alternatives. The interest to try vegan alternatives are more prevalent in women than men.
“We are delighted to partner with Skin Proud on this important mission to protect cows and the planet too,” said Abigail Penny, executive director of Animal Equality. “By joining forces, we are able to amplify the voices of these animals and share the dark realities of the dairy industry. A kinder world is possible and as consumers we hold the power.”
