Unilever has suspended all imports and exports of its products into and out of Russia. The company said it will stop all media and advertising spend, too.
“We will not invest any further capital into the country nor will we profit from our presence in Russia. We will continue to supply our everyday essential food and hygiene products made in Russia to people in the country. We will keep this under close review,” CEO Alan Jope said today in a statement released by the company.
Unilever has also stopped its business operations in Ukraine. The company is “now fully focused on ensuring the safety of our Ukrainian employees and their families, including helping with their evacuation where necessary, and providing additional financial support,” Jope noted.
Unilever has 146 employees in Ukraine.
On March 2, Unilever announced that it would donate €5m of essential goods—food, personal care and hygiene products to the humanitarian relief effort. It also launched a company-matched global employee giving program.
