Lumene Group, Finland, has appointed industry veteran Alain Mavon to serve as its new VP of R&D and sustainability.
Dr. Mavon, together with his team, is responsible for new ingredients, formulations and testing, regulation, QA, packaging, and sustainability. He continues Tiina Isohanni's pioneering work in harnessing the raw materials of Nordic nature in cosmetics as well as the development of comprehensive circular economy principles within personal care, said Lumene Group.
Isohanni and Mavon will work together until the end of 2022, when Isohanni will shift to the Lumene Group's board after a more than 30-year career in the company.
Over the past decades, Isohanni has led Lumene’s R&D team and its development of patented formulas and award-winning, market-leading skin care products. Isohanni is also lauded for her significant role in the utilization of industrial by-products in the cosmetics industry.
Mavon has more than 25 years of experience in cosmetics research, approximately 60 scientific publications and has participated in the development of several patented innovations. Most recently, before joining Lumene Group, Mavon worked for Oriflame Cosmetics, Sweden.
He also worked for 12 years at Pierre Fabre Dermo-Cosmétique in the field of skin delivery and discovering new active ingredients. In 2009, Alain joined Oriflame, heading Skin Research Institute, open innovation, sustainability and scientific communication Units. In 2022, he took over new responsibilities at Lumene, leading the R&D, quality and Sustainability teams, with the core focus on innovative plant-based Nordic ingredients, eco-friendly packaging and circular beauty.
"In a company like Lumene Group, with a strong product development, I can best utilize my deep expertise in skin science. I'm excited to lead the creation of the next generation of beauty products. The kinds that draw strength from the northern nature and offer our consumers authentic, functional and responsible products,” Mavon said in a statement.
