Ichimaru Pharcos will launch a new oral care ingredient, Milltect, which protects the tooth from oral biofilm (dental plaque) formation.
Many oral health conditions exist from caries to periodontitis to bad breath and tooth staining—oral biofilm being the root cause of these problems. While dental plaque contains acids and inflammatory and malodorous substances, they directly cause the oral problems described above. Due to the level of difficulty in removing once-formed biofilm completely, (even with tooth brushing and antibacterial agents) prevention of early adhesion of oral bacteria to the tooth is imperative.
Ichimaru Pharcos searched for a material that inhibits bacterial adhesion and found that an extract of Codium fragile had this effect. The company launched natural oral care ingredient Milltect, which showed a synergistic effect when used with cetylpyridinium chloride (CPC), well-used oral antibiotics, and strongly inhibited malodor and staining.
Milltect inhibits bacterial adhesion, prevents biofilm formation, reduces cavity risk, and prevents bad breath and tooth stain. The ingredient is Cosmos approved and HALAL certified.
Milltect Developer Ryota Takeuchi was awarded the PCHi 2023 Fountain Award for Best Newcomers in February.
Other awards at the PCHi Fountain Awards include the Active Raw Material Award / Excellent Developer Award at Izayoi in 2017; the Active Raw Material Award / Excellent Developer Award at Chrono Chardy in 2018; the Excellent Developer Award at Wamino-BonBon in 2019; the Outstanding Developer Award at Burgeon-Up in 2020; and the Active Raw Material Award at SpringMint in 2021.
Milltect will be launched on March 28. Ichimaru Pharcos will exhibit at in-Cosmetics Global 2023 at Stand D50.
